A local college pitcher found himself in the strike zone Friday afternoon at Jacksonville Beach.

I think I feel the same way Hal.

However, I can't help but consider the more I surf the more I put myself at risk, especially in the summer, in Jax Beach. Remind me why I do this again? Oh yeah, I love surfing more than I'm scared of getting bit.

You a 100 times more likely to die from a coconut to the head than a shark attack. Just sayin'.

And even more likely to get killed by some dumba$$ messing with their cell phone, palm pilot, or ipod coming or going to the beach.
2 bites already....we're good for a while now.

My dad always use to say, when you see the bait fish jumping "lift them feet" somethings making them jump.
It's also a good idea to remove any jewelry that might reflect light like a lure. (ring, earring, toes ring, shiny watch etc...)
Fish and sharks attack first/taste second, a bright flash from a ring looks like a bait fish.

I even hit my watch buckle with black paint to kill the shine.

The Sunday Times Union did not mention the word shark. The article stated that the guy was bitten by "a large, powerfull fish." Funny, I thought it was a P.R. thing.

I read "more than 400." The way Julz and Bwise keep downgrading the severity of this poor schmuck's injuries, he'll be reduced to "superficial epidermal abrasion, left big toe, barnacle scrape" by Saturday.

I had 12 stitches in the first joint of my thumb once. 400 is just an area 33 times my the pad of my thumb. That's not that much, really. I mean, dude didn't get his arm bitten clean off or anything.

Stitches are for pussies. Unless you put them in yourself.

Saw the picts last night, Defdon had them on his Iphone. super GNAR.
I've had 300 stitches before.......this way way more gnar looking.
The foot didn't even look like it had an ankle left.

It wasn't a "FISH", it was a shark and I'd say a big BULL by the looks of it. WTF? Who said......"Might not be a shark."
Nice PR attempt, but ah, no.....BIG shark....sorry.

I heard he likes to hang around 16th -20th south, might want to avoid for a long time.

I was thinking bull shark, but then changed my mind due to the fact that the guy's foot was still attached.
